There is something very special about sharing a sourdough starter. It’s not just flour and water, it’s a living culture, a quiet little piece of baking history that carries stories from one kitchen to another.
This beautiful starter began its life in little Tasmania, where I grew up. From there it travelled all the way to Queensland, where it now lives happily in my kitchen, being lovingly fed each day with white unbleached flour. Over time it has grown strong, resilient, and wonderfully reliable, the very same starter that creates the loaves we bake here at Sourdough Avenue.
To me, sourdough has become far more than bread. It has brought peace, joy, and purpose into my days. The gentle rhythm of feeding, fermenting, shaping and baking has become a lifestyle I find myself having a romantic little affair with. Through this starter I’ve been able to share nourishing bread with my community and fill my kitchen with warmth and happiness.
Each bag contains 100 grams of dehydrated starter, which allows for two attempts at activating your own sourdough culture using a simple 1:1:1 feeding ratio.
